Food Allergies and Food Safety

Serving Students with Food Allergies and Celiac Disease

The dining services team is well-trained in food allergy awareness and offer a number of options for students with food allergies and celiac disease. This includes communication about and modification to existing menu items, special preparation of menu items, and access to special products as agreed upon with students.

Daily menus for each café can be accessed at scad.cafebonappetit.com. Menu items that are appropriate options for most students with celiac disease are labeled as “made without gluten-containing ingredients” and can be filtered to streamline searching using the dietary preferences filter. Top-9 allergens are included in menu names and/or descriptions whenever possible. For more on eating with a food allergy in our café, visit this page. Further questions about ingredients can be answered by our trained managers/chefs on-site.

Serving Safe, High-Quality Food

Bon Appétit at SCAD Savannah is committed to serving safe, high-quality food. Quality assurance standards are based on the FDA Food Code, and all records are reviewed annually by local health inspectors and third-party auditors. In addition, all managers are ServSafe certified, and new training materials are frequently developed to ensure the dining services team is well-trained in food safety practices.

For more information on food allergies and food safety protocols in our café, view the guide on Food Allergies and Celiac Disease and Food Safety Practices at SCAD Savannah.

Eat Right — For You

Do you care about whether your food was grown locally or raised humanely? Or are you more interested in protein vs. carbs?

Whatever your priorities, we can help you chew the right thing. At Bon Appétit, we’re working toward “food service for a sustainable future.” How we define that is a mouthful, but the bottom line is that we strive to cook delicious food that’s good for you, the animals, the workers, the community, and the Earth — because they’re all connected. And we’re proud to be the first food service company to tackle many important issues in these areas.

We’re here to support you by giving the information you need to choose wisely. Visit our Wellness page for a feast of information about the roles our from-scratch cooking, nutritional approach, local sourcing, and other sustainability programs can play on your menu.

Meal Plans

SCAD offers several dining options to suit students’ schedules and lifestyles. Meal plans are purchased and administered on a quarterly basis, and services are accessed through the use of the SCAD Card. Meal plans are not available at SCAD Lacoste.

Traditional Meal Plans

Traditional meal plans offer a designated number of meals per week or quarter, as well as a variable amount of flexible spending credit (Dining Dollars) for students to use at any SCAD dining location or SCAD convenience store.

Students residing at The Hive, Chatham, Montgomery House, Oglethorpe House, River, Turner House, Sail and Surf at Victory Village, pods and suites in FORTY, and suites in FORTY FOUR and FORTY FIVE must choose one of the traditional meal plans. Students who do not select a meal plan prior to enrollment but are required to select a traditional meal plan will be assigned meal plan B.

Apartment Meal Plans

Apartment meal plans offer a designated number of meals at the start of the quarter for students residing off-campus and those living in apartment-style campus housing.

Students residing at Barnard Village, Boundary Village, SCAD House, Sand at Victory Village, apartments in FORTY, and apartments in FORTY FOUR must choose a meal plan. These residents may choose from any of the traditional or apartment meal plans. If a meal plan is not selected prior to enrollment, meal plan F will be assigned.

A and B meal plan balances reset every Thursday at 11:59 p.m. Meal plans C, D, E and F provide all meals at the start of the meal plan cycle each quarter, and the plan balance is to last the entire quarter. Students swipe for meals at their discretion, and each swipe deducts from the plan balance.

Dining facilities have varying hours of operation. Review café hours to see which dining facilities are open during each meal period.

Please direct questions about the meal plan or payment information to the SCAD Card Center at: 912.525.6153 or scadcard@scad.edu
